Centennial celebrations of the Indian Chemical
Society highlight essential role of chemistry
and chemical industry
he centennial celebrations of the
Indian Chemical Society (ICS),
Testablished on May 9, 1924, in
Kolkata, highlighted the essential role
of chemistry and the chemical industry
in modern living.
The two-day celebrations, which
was inaugurated by the Governor of
West Bengal, Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose,
saw plenary talks, presentations from
experts from industry, researchers from
academia, and a panel discussion on
‘Future of chemical industry for Viksit
Bharat @ 2047.’
According to Prof. G.D. Yadav,
President, ICS, the society was founded
by Acharya P.C. Ray (as Founding Dr. Bose
President) along with renowned scien-
tists including Prof. J.N. Mukherjee,
Prof. J.C. Ghosh, and Prof. S.S. Bhat-
nagar, to further the cause of chemistry,
its education and research. The society
publishes the Journal of Indian Chemi-
cal Society, containing peer-reviewed
research articles, reviews, notes and
communications in the major areas of
inorganic, physical, organic, analytical,
environmental, medicinal, and indus-
trial chemistry.
