Gurugram-based process water and wastewater treatment solutions provider, Membrane Group India Pvt. Ltd., has set up a joint venture with Japan’s Kurita Water Industries Ltd., a global leader in water treatment technologies and solutions.
Kurita will own 51% and Membrane Group India the remaining 49% in the jv named Kurita Membrane India Pvt. Ltd.
With a significant capital commitment from both companies, the new venture aims to become the water treatment solutions partner of choice for India’s rapidly growing semiconductor and advanced electronics manufacturing sectors, supporting the country’s ambitions to build a $120-150 billion semiconductor value chain by 2035.
The joint venture combines Kurita’s globally proven technologies and expertise in water treatment, particularly for the semiconductor industry, with Membrane Group’s engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities in India, to deliver solutions tailored to local market requirements.
Mr. Peeyush Narang, Managing Director, Membrane Group India, said India had a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish itself as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub, and that achieving this vision would require world-class infrastructure, with water as one of its most critical enablers. He said the company’s vision was to ensure India’s semiconductor industry had access to world-class ultrapure water, wastewater recycling and sustainable water management solutions, with Kurita bringing global leadership in semiconductor water technologies and Membrane Group contributing decades of engineering, manufacturing and project execution expertise in India.
Membrane Group’s growth strategy is backed by GEF Capital Partners, a global private equity investor focused on businesses advancing resource efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The new jv will offer a portfolio of water and wastewater treatment solutions, including ultrapure water (UPW) systems for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, industrial water and wastewater treatment systems, wastewater reclamation and reuse solutions for the semiconductor industry, resource recovery, zero liquid discharge (ZLD) solutions, water analysis and laboratory services, and end-to-end technical support spanning engineering, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance. The company will also operate an ultrapure water analysis centre to support customers through water quality testing, process optimisation and technical services.
“India’s semiconductor industry is entering a phase of rapid expansion, backed by government initiatives and rising investment from domestic and international manufacturers. With semiconductor fabrication facilities requiring highly reliable ultrapure water systems alongside advanced water recycling and environmental management solutions, Kurita Membrane India is positioned to support the growing ecosystem,” the companies said in a press note.
